Somatic and More, Therapy Resources
Let's watch some therapy videos together!
Idea: To get together as therapists and watch one therapy video and then talk about technique. Videos will often focus on somatic therapies but can branch out to any other good/interesting therapy practice. Group can suggest which videos will be watched. Attendees may have videos they would like to share with group--which would be great! I'm picturing this as a video variation of a book club.
Meetings will be bi-weekly or monthly and annouced at the beginning of the month.
Next Scheduled Meeting:
Date: Monday Feb 18th
Meeting time: 7:30 pm
Place: Awakenings Wellness Center, 1016 Southeast 12th Avenue Portland, OR 97214. In the large common room.
Other somatic resources in Portland:
Dance
Sacred Circle Dance occurs every Sunday at the Tiffany Ballroom from 10:30-12:30. The dance space is for people to express movement and celebrate being alive. One can walk into the space at 10:30 and start warming up. An opening circle happens at 11 where an intention for the dance is set and every one is welcomed into the space. At 12:30 there is a closing circle and community announcements. While dancing no one talks. Talking occurs in the hallway out side the dance space. Your space and person is respected in this community and people will generally not try to dance with anyone unless it is made clear that someone is interested in dancing with him/her. This space is for dancing, self expression and the celebration of life. $8-$10 sliding scale.
Square Dancing every Sunday from 7-9pm at the Village Ballroom in NE Portland. Live music. Live callers. $7 sliding scale.
Yoga
Ashtanga is a traditional series of yoga poses, or asanas. One slowly learns the series until one knows the series by heart. Traditional classes are taught according to the mysore method. In a mysore class you do the series according to your own breath and ability. The teacher walks around and does individual corrections. As you progress in your practice the Ashtanga practice develops a deeper and generally more spiritual message to the practitioner
Ashtanga at Near East Yoga- a very community oriented yoga space led by Casey Palmer. Casey was trained in Ashtanga under Sri Pattabhi Jois and has a Buddhist practice. $15 drop in.
